Timothy Hill is a highly esteemed international arbitrator, based in Hong Kong, renowned for his exceptional track record in commercial dispute resolution spanning over thirty-five years. Since 1988, Tim has been a prominent figure in Hong Kong's legal community. He recently transitioned to a full-time neutral role after serving as a partner at Hogan Lovells and as the former Managing Partner of its Hong Kong office. Notably, he led the International Arbitration and Construction and Engineering Practice in Asia, showcasing his expertise in these sectors.
Tim's practice primarily focuses on the construction and engineering industry, handling a wide range of related commercial disputes. He has participated in over 150 mediations and arbitrations across Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East. Tim has served as both a sole arbitrator and as a member of three-person tribunals, demonstrating his versatility and ability to effectively adjudicate cases under various institutional rules such as CIETAC, ICC, HKIAC, KLRCA, LCIA, SIAC, and UNCITRAL.
Tim is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators. His skills as a mediator have also been formally assessed by the Accord Group, qualifying him to act as a sole mediator to facilitate dispute resolutions.

Tim has been involved in a wide range of construction disputes relating to issues affecting the successful structuring, award, and delivery of complex projects in a variety of industry sectors including building, construction, energy, information technology, insurance, and joint ventures. His practice is broad and involved all types of parties including employers, main contractors, subcontractors (both domestic and specialist), consultants, and insurers. He has assisted a wide range of parties in respect of final account disputes, addressing valuation and time-related matters. He has also considered most of the issues that arise through the supply chain whilst delivering projects.
Tim has extensive experience of commercial disputes across a number of industry sectors, including construction, energy, employment, information technology, insurance, joint ventures, sale of goods. He has been involved in cases relating to design, supply and distribution of goods and services, contractual disputes across a range of industries, guarantee arrangements and joint venture agreements.
Tim has been involved in several disputes relating to issues in the Energy, Oil and Gas sector. A number of these disputes related to the design, procurement, and construction of capital projects in the sector in respect of both onshore and offshore facilities. He has also acted as counsel in respect of disputes under off take agreements and joint development agreements.
Tim has been involved in a wide range of disputes in the insurance sector, particularly in respect of general liability insurance, contractors all risk, delayed start up and professional indemnity. His practice is broad and involved all key parties, including insured parties, insurers, and re-insurers.
Tim has advised and represented parties in a significant number of disputes arising from the management and resolution of disputes arising under contractual joint venture agreements and shareholder agreements.
Tim has advised and represented parties in several disputes relating to software development and systems integration, relating to telecommunications projects, infrastructure, and transportation.
